(PART 3) - Monetizing articles on your website.

Original Article: The Power of Misspellings

After I noticed that I was getting some good traffic from these articles on "The Power of Misspellings" (Oreck vs Orick), I told everyone I would try to monetize these articles. First I signed up for a Google Adsense account. For those of you who are not familiar with Google Adsense here is the short description on the Adsense site.

"Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website's content pages and earn money. Because the ads are related to what your visitors are looking for on your site or matched to the characteristics and interests of the visitors your content attracts you'll finally have a way to both monetize and enhance your content pages.

It's also a way for website publishers to provide Google web and site search to their visitors, and to earn money by displaying Google ads on the search results pages."

It only took a few minutes to signup and I had text ads up on my site within about 30 minutes. The great thing about Google Adsense is that they display ads that are relevant to the content on your pages.

This means 2 things to me.

  1. I can offer the readers of my site want they are looking for, which is information on Orick Vacuums and Orick Air Purifiers.
  2. I can potentially earn some money from advertisers when people click on these ads.

I added these Google text links in Late November 2006 and started earning revenue the first day. It's now  the end of December and it looks like I earned about $50 in December from Google Adsense.

I also recently signed up for a Commission Junction Affiliate program, as you can see by the banners and text links for Oreck Vacuums and Oreck Air Purfiers on my site. January 2007 will be the first full month with those Commission Junction ads running and I will of course keep you updated next month with the progress.
