Q: How can I edit my HOSTS file?


A: Editing your hosts file is easy.

Step 1) Open Windows Notepad or another plain text editor.

Step 2) Open this file: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts . The file has no extension.

Step 3) There may already be entries in your HOSTS file. Make a new line after the last entry. Enter the IP of the site you want to access. Add a space after the IP. Now add the domain you want to correspond to the IP. If your site IP is 192.168.5.5 and your domain is www.mysite.com, your entry should look like this:



Step 4) Now save and close your file.

*Note: You may need administrator access on your computer to save the HOSTS file.
*Note: You may have to restart your browser and/or computer for the changes to take effect.
